How to Choose the Perfect Reclaimed Wood Desk for Your Home Office
The home office desk is the piece of furniture you'll spend more time at than almost any other. It needs to be the right size, the right height, and the right style — and it needs to hold up to years of daily use without wobbling, warping, or looking tired.
Here's how to choose the right reclaimed wood desk for your space.
Step 1: Measure Your Space First
Before you think about style or finish, measure your available space. You'll want at least 60cm of depth for a comfortable working surface, and enough width to accommodate your monitor, keyboard, and any other equipment. Don't forget to account for chair clearance behind the desk.
Because all our desks are made to order, you can specify exact dimensions. No awkward compromises.
Step 2: Choose Your Desk Style
We make three main desk configurations:
Standard Single Desk
Our most popular option. A solid reclaimed wood top on hairpin legs — clean, versatile, and works in almost any room. Our Reclaimed Wood Home Office Desk with Hairpin Legs is available in custom sizes and multiple finishes.
Industrial Dark Oak Desk
For a more dramatic look, our Reclaimed Wood Desk with Dark Oak Finish pairs a richly stained top with black hairpin legs. It suits home offices with darker colour schemes or more industrial aesthetics.
L-Shaped Corner Desk
If you need maximum workspace, our Reclaimed Wood Corner Desk gives you an L-shaped surface that makes the most of a corner. Ideal for dual-monitor setups or anyone who needs space for both a computer and paperwork.
Step 3: Think About Desk Height
Standard desk height is 73–75cm, which suits most people working from a chair. If you're taller, or want the option to stand, let us know — we can adjust leg height to suit. Our hairpin legs come in standard 71cm height but can be specified taller on request.
Step 4: Add a Monitor Riser
If you're working with a monitor, a riser makes a significant difference to posture and desk organisation. Our Reclaimed Wood Monitor Riser Stand is made from the same reclaimed timber as our desks, so it matches perfectly. It also includes storage space underneath for a keyboard, cables, or stationery.
Step 5: Choose Your Finish
We offer natural wax, antique pine, and dark oak finishes. Natural wax is the most popular for home offices — it keeps the wood looking light and fresh without being too rustic. Dark oak suits more formal or dramatic spaces. All finishes are durable and easy to maintain.
Why Reclaimed Wood for a Desk?
A reclaimed wood desk is more than a work surface. It's a piece you'll actually enjoy sitting at. The texture and warmth of real timber makes a home office feel less like a corporate cubicle and more like a space you've chosen. And because it's solid wood, it won't flex under the weight of monitors or develop that hollow drumming sound you get from cheaper desks.
All our desks are handmade in the UK, delivered free, and built to last. Get in touch if you'd like to discuss a custom size or finish.
